Over the past few years, we saw web design trends veer towards making websites more mobile-friendly. Webmasters are working harder to make their pages load faster and their entire site more intuitive than ever.
We’ve also witnessed the growth of animation and video as an essential element of web design as well.
Now that 2021 is just around the corner, what web design trends do you think would make a splash in the coming year?
If you want to pick up some web design tips that just might serve you well next year, then let’s take a look at some of the top web design trends that aim to improve customer experience next year.
Mobile-first design
Remember the time when web designers typically created a website for desktop first, then worked on a design that would make it mobile-friendly? Those days are going to be long gone with mobile-first design continuing taking center stage this year.
As the phrase implies, mobile-first design is a web design strategy where smaller screens take priority in the design process.
Since web designers will be sketching and prototyping on the smallest screen first, they will have to work on putting only the most important element of their website, which is the content. Other enhancements will only come in as they work their way to larger screens.
The biggest benefit of the mobile-first design is the speed at which it delivers what mobile users—who have long outnumbered desktop users, by the way—really want to get immediately: content.
Users won’t have to wait for other extraneous elements to load. With faster access to the information they need, your chances of getting more conversions improve as well.
Dynamic responsive landing pages
For the longest time, landing pages have been static. Admittedly, even if it’s well-designed, a static page can look dull, which makes keeping users engaged close to impossible.
That could change with the use of dynamic responsive landing pages.
To make a landing page more interesting and ultimately engaging, web designers can spice things up by adding some web animation and interactive elements to it.
Big typography
The use of big typography has been in vogue in 2020, usually section titles and hero images.
With users having less and less time to spend on poring over every corner of websites, big typography will only grow more prominent next year, and will even expand into more web design layouts. After all, letters in large point sizes capture audiences faster and therefore reduces the time needed to make them convert.
Dark mode
In a world where more and more people are working night shifts, one important web design trend that could see more implementation this year is dark mode.
Night owls who work on their computers till the early hours of the morning don’t really need bright screens, so web pages on dark mode would be something they would appreciate.
Micro animation

Micro animations have been around for some time, but they are going to get bigger in 2021. They may be small, but the way they guide users as they interact with, say, a product on your eCommerce website, makes them quite useful and very powerful tools.
Depending on how you apply them, micro animations can also make hero images and other aspects of your website more playful and fun.
Fullscreen forms
The online form is an integral part of the lead generation and conversion process. It’s also the most tedious, especially the part where users fill them in to give you that lead you want and need. They tend to be small too, which makes the idea of filling them in even more dreary.
In a year where we see typography getting bigger and landing pages becoming more dynamic, we can also see that trend pour into the design of online forms. In 2021, website visitors will be seeing much bigger online forms—fullscreen ones even—which are inviting enough for users to interact with, and effectively improve their experience.
Minimalism
Next year, we can expect more minimalistic pages, because websites using less than three colors, with hidden navigation bars, and fewer buttons and graphics elements have typically faster download speeds.
A minimalist web page also has plenty of white space, which helps your website breathe. Navigation also tends to be easier with minimalist web design.
Custom videos
Despite the growing popularity of minimalism in web design, the use of videos will continue to be widespread in 2021. After all, videos will always be more engaging than any other type of content.
They also deliver your message more quickly, helping you increase your reach while keeping visitors entertained.
These are just some of the web design trends that are poised to take hold in 2021, all in the name of improving customer experience.
